Zhingwaako Zaaga'lam School 1.0 FTE Grade 7/8 Classroom Teacher

Position Description

The position will begin for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year.

Lac La Croix First Nation is an Anishinabe community with a membership of over 400 people. The community is located in north western Ontario approximately 100km east of Fort Frances. Access to the community is by Flanders Road, a 79 km all-weather road accessible from Hwy 11 (approximately 40km west of Atikokan). Lac La Croix First Nation is affiliated with Grand Council Treaty #3 territory. Zhingwaako Zaaga'lganing Private School offers Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12 (elementary and secondary school). The school is a community school that provides an Ontario Ministry of Education accredited secondary program. Staff and students are involved in a cultural programming in all areas of the curriculum which can take place daily as well as new music program we are implementing this year. The school strives to offer a personalized learning experience to each student including an emphasis on self-expression, the celebration of First Nation culture, conversation and cooperation. Circle of Courage training and understanding and/or training in Attachment Theory would be considered assets. 

  • A current Ontario College of Teachers Certificate of Qualifications
  • Must have an awareness and appreciation of First Nation Culture
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be willing to plan for, and participate in land-based teaching opportunities
  • Preference given to those with music background/experience
