Job Title: Assistant Cook
Job Description:
Summary: The assistant cook provides food service for registered campers staying at Northern Tier’s Base Camp on Perch Lake. The assistant cook will be expected to cook healthy, quality food in a clean and friendly atmosphere. This position reports to the Head Cook and Northern Tier Base Director.
Dates: The Assistant Cook is a summer seasonal position from June through August, with flexible start dates ranging into May. Hours are variable, depending on the program load each week. Usually, we are serving 30-70 campers a day in our dining hall, providing breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Hourly and Full-Time (seasonal) contracts available based on applicant qualifications. For those hired in Full-Time (seasonal) positions, room and board is provided for the duration of the contract. As a youth serving summer camp, hours can be long and the days hard, however our cooks are uniquely positioned to impact each camper who attends a Northern Tier Program.
Specific Duties: Comply with all Ontario Food Safety Regulations, Cook meals in accordance to the established menu, clean and sanitize the kitchen and dining facilities after meals, keep kitchen and dining hall in a clean and organized manner, record food storage temperatures as required, manage kitchen waste responsibly, other duties as assigned as part of the camp staff team.
Requirements: Minimum of 18 years of age, ability to pass a background check and vulnerable sector check, Experience cooking meals for small to large groups (50+), Safe Food Handler Certification preferred (will provide training if needed), Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Compensation: Opportunity to attend Wilderness First Aid training at no charge (if requested), Safe Food Handler Certification at no charge (if needed), On-site housing is available, if requested.
