Role

A guard assists in the supervision of prisoners held in police cells and ensures their safety/secure custody.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

You must meet all eligibility criteria by the first day of employment:

Age: You must be a minimum of 18 years of age. There is no maximum age limit.
Residency: You must be a resident of Atikokan or surrounding area.
Work Status: You must be legally entitled to work in Canada. You are also required to have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) upon being hired.
Criminal Record: No criminal record for which a records suspension has not been received.
First Aid / CPR: Required to be completed before start date.

Overview of job duties

Monitoring cells constantly (at least once every 30 minutes for rational prisoners, every 10 minutes for irrational prisoners) on day or night shift; checking visually or by video, assessing prisoners’ mental and physical condition.

Completing reports showing status of prisoners, e.g., sleeping, pacing, awake.

Ordering meals, bringing water or coffee for prisoners.

Calling for uniformed or professional assistance in cases of emergency, e.g., sickness, prisoners harming themselves

Taking chronological handwritten notes, preparing prisoner reports including data, e.g., dates, sequence of events, time at which cells checked, state of occupant.

Performing other duties as assigned.

Hourly pay

$27.00 – 29.00 dollars per hour

Hours of Work

On Call Casual work (0-40 hrs per week)
