Reporting to the manager, Communications, the Specialist, Communications supports the development and implementation of a suite of innovative and creative communications and can easily support a project through from strategy to tactical execution. The specialist assists the Manger, Communications in helping the team develop multifaceted communications strategies that leverage the latest social and technological innovations to reach diverse audiences.

Here is what you will be doing:

  • Supports strong, trusting, productive working relationships with staff at all levels within the organization and with stakeholders across Ontario Health
  • Supports the development and implementation of Ontario Health’s communications products and initiatives, including reports, newsletters, web-content, etc.
  • Works collaboratively with the team to develop compelling, patient-focused web content
  • Supports the communications team in delivering innovative and engaging social media content
  • Provides back-up to support the Manager
  • Supports the development of community engagement by planning, coordinating and delivering communications that contribute to positive relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Keeps up-to-date records on outcomes of consultations and interactions with residents, government, community groups and the broader community in general
  • Participates in the development of busines unit goals and objectives
  • Prepares and/or coordinates appropriate pre-consultation review materials in advance of community engagement events
  • Contributes and supports the development of content for a variety of communications vehicles, both print and digital
  • Understands and complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations, and the organization’s health and safety practices, policies and procedures
  • Contributes to a culture of patient safety, which includes respect, accountability and open communication in a psychologically safe environment
  • Other duties as assigned

Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary education (College Diploma or University Degree) in communications, public relations, journalism or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting communications initiatives
  • Bilingualism (French and English) preferred

Knowledge and Skills

  • Good knowledge of and proven ability to support organizational communications in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills and a passion for storytelling, including proficiency in news, web, and marketing writing, including ability to translate complex ideas and concepts into readable copy
  • Proven ability to communicate professionally and effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in partnership with a broad range of individuals and organizations of diverse backgrounds
  • Strong project management and presentation skills, including planning and communicating
  • apply multiple planning and analysis methodologies and make effective recommendations
  • Uses information to make informed decisions and provides advice; exercises high degree of independence and professional judgment in problem solving
  • Must be highly organized and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in French is an asset

Employment Type: Permanent Full-Time
Employment Location: Ontario (currently virtual; subject to change). All applicants must be a resident of Ontario to be considered for roles at Ontario Health.
