Dallan LP is a partnership between Lac Des Mille Lac First Nation, Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation and Dale Levesque a member of the Fort William First Nation. Dallan LP is a 10% aboriginal owned business that provides industrial yard services which includes a variety of heavy equipment operations, maintenance, trucking and general labour. Dallan LP currently has three separate contracts/operations in Northwestern Ontario. Job Title: Operations Supervisor
Reports To: Manager of Operations
Location: Atikokan Sawmill, Ontario
Salary Range: $90,000 – $95,000 Per Year
Schedule: Four Days on, Four Days off.
Position Summary:
The Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and productive operation of mobile equipment, trucks at the Dallan Atikokan sawmill operation. This role reports to the operations Manager. This role also supervises equipment operators, coordinates daily yard activities, scheduling, acts as a main liaison with customer at the site level and ensures compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of mobile equipment operators (e.g., log loaders, forklifts, and other heavy equipment).
- Ensure safe operation of all equipment in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with the Health & Safety Department at times regarding audits, corrective actions, training, policy reviews, investigations and reporting safety and environmental incidents.
- Collaborate with the HR Department and interact with union representatives at times, regarding employee and labour relations matters.
- Monitor workflow in the yard to optimize the sawmill production and handling of inventory.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, enforce safety procedures on equipment, yard conditions and safe operating.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate equipment operators and truck drivers to maintain high performance and skill levels.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance and communicate repair needs with maintenance teams.
- Track productivity, equipment utilization, and operational efficiency; implement improvements as needed.
- Ensure proper log sorting, inventory control, and yard organization.
- Respond to operational issues and adjust staffing or equipment deployment accordingly.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to operations and safety.
- Ensure schedules are completed and posted as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by Dallan management.
- Hours: minimum of 48 hours per 4 on 4 off block, with some on-call duties required
Qualifications:
- Valid Class G Driver’s License (must be maintained).
- Previous supervisory experience in an industrial environment.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Strong computer proficiency (Word, Excel, and maintenance or inventory software systems).
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including communication, motivation, negotiation, and team building.
- A post-secondary degree diploma in Forestry, Operations Management, Heavy Equipment Operation/Maintenance or similar would be considered as assets.
- Ability to work flexible hours based on operational requirements.
