Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario/Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario. The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About the Role
Schedule: 14×14 or 7×7
Position Reports To: Chief Engineer

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Geotechnical Engineer will be based at the Rainy River Project Site and provide technical expertise to support the development of the open pit mining operation. 14 days on/14 days off, 7 days on/7 days off.

Responsibilities:
The Geotechnical Engineer’s key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide practical approaches and cost effective solutions
  • Be adept at a variety of investigations, stabilization and mitigation strategies for unstable slopes and soils in a wet environment
  • Work as a team member within the Engineering department
  • Ability to supervise and mentor junior engineers and techs
  • Ability to develop appropriate work scope, schedule and budget for a variety of civil, construction and geotechnical solutions
  • Perform investigations and evaluations to develop design recommendations and assist in the preparation of design plans and specifications
  • Oversee the onsite ground control management program, shallow and deep foundation analyses, slope stability analysis, subgrade evaluations, soil and hard rock cut slope designs, preparation of geotechnical engineering reports, task/project management, and the preparation of technical and price proposals
  • Liaise with consulting engineers to ensure appropriate guidelines and measures are in place to maintain pit wall and dump stability
  • Must have a minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Geotechnical/Mine Engineering, Civil Engineering or Geology combine with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a geotechnical engineer in a hard rock, open pit mining operation
  • Professional Designation in Geology or Engineering preferred
  • Previous experience in open pit rock mechanics required
  • Previous experience in tailings dam design and monitoring experience for dump stability
  • Previous experience in pit-wall monitoring for a hard rock mining operation
  • Underground combined with surface geotechnical experience is considered an asset
  • Possess strong computer, verbal and written skills
  • Work in a team environment to meet deadlines
  • Positive attitude and commitment to safety
  • Strong communication skills with ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
