Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario/Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated halfway between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario. The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About the Role
Schedule: 14/14 – 12 hour day shifts
Position Reports To: Mill Operations Superintendent
Position Overview:
The Senior Operations Control Room Specialist plays an integral part ensuring the mill is operated effectively and safely in day-to-day operations. This position reports directly to the Mill Operations Superintendent and works closely with the Superintendent to identify areas for operational improvements and provide training and direction to all persons involved in high level Mill operating.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate current Control Room operations and develop training plan for optimization
- Maintain compliance with corporate, governmental and site environmental and safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Create awareness of unsafe and/or environmentally harmful behaviour
- Provide the leadership and direction necessary to ensure the operating integrity of the mill staying within the requirements of budgeted costs and production and planned targets
- Effectively communicate and coordinate operating strategies to all personnel involved in operating the Mill Control Room
- Work with Process Control Technician to ensure that proper programming and safeguards are in place for safe and efficient operation of equipment
- Develop trouble shooting matrix to assist Operations in making informed and proper decisions
- Regularly tour and inspect the Mill areas to identify and address any health and safety, environmental, production, equipment, and employee issues
- Assist in development of Parcview trends and alarms to assist with Operations
- Ensure employees have a clear understanding of work objectives and expectations of performance levels
- Ensure that direct reports are provided with the training required for their current tasks and future needs
- Ensure all incidents are reported, adequately investigated and entered in INX in a timely manner
- Supporting and participating in process improvement initiatives, such as optimization of plant processes and reducing downtime
- Analyzing data and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions or process problems, working with maintenance and operations personnel to resolve issues as they arise
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 diploma or GED equivalent
- 10 plus years in milling environment with Control Room experience
- Proficient with Delta V and competency with other computer-based programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook Access)
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance systems such as SAP is essential
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Solid understanding and experience of gold milling practices and equipment capabilities an asset
- Good understanding and working knowledge of the applicable legislation and regulations for mines
- Well-developed planning, problem solving, decision making, interpersonal, communication and organization skills
- Work in a team environment to meet deadlines
