Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario/Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated halfway between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario. The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About the Role
Schedule: This position is a full time with a flexible Hybrid Work Model with a requirement of once-a-month 7 day rotation
Position Reports To: Environment Superintendent
Position Overview
Reporting to the Environment Superintendent, the Senior Resources Engineer is responsible for working as an integral member of the environment department and New Gold teams to provide water resources analysis to inform mine planning and water management planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing site water balances
  • Developing mine water management plans
  • Preparing technical reports and presentations
  • Developing hydrologic design criteria (e.g., peak flows and volume for various frequencies of rainfall and snowmelt events) for hydraulic structures
  • Participating in a wide range of engineering and mining projects, from conceptual water management planning, to detailed designed of water infrastructure
  • Providing technical expertise related to hydrologic assessments, site-wide and tailings impoundment water balances, options assessments for water management infrastructure, hydraulic and streamflow evaluations, hydraulic modelling and dam breach assessment
  • Serving as a Qualified Professional in relevant jurisdictions for assessments, studies, designs, and recommendations where required for regulatory purposes
  • Providing leadership and mentoring to a growing mine water management team and interacting and collaborating with other senior leaders in the business

Qualifications

  • A degree in civil engineering or environmental engineering or equivalent
  • 10 years of progressively senior experience in the resource industry
  • Technical expertise of, and extensive experience with, developing and applying complex water quality simulation models and other planning tools
  • Experience with the GoldSim® simulation modelling platform is required
  • Professional registration or eligibility to obtain it
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both formal and informal settings
  • Strong project management skills and experience in managing water resource
  • Knowledge of the water management requirements of the mining industry and the relevant Ontario regulations
  • Excellent communication, leadership, problem solving, mentoring, writing and people skills
  • Committed to technical excellence and ability to write proposals and technical reports
